Vampire Facelift

Vampire Facelift Questions Revealed

Does something like a “Vampire Facelift” scare yet intrigue you at the same time? Dr. Bruce Katz, Director of the Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Clinic at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Director of the Juva Skin & Laser Center in New York gives you the facts about this buzzed about treatment:

1- Is the “Vampire Facelift” an actual treatment?

“First of all, there is no such thing as a “vampire facelift”. There is, however, a product that can be used which is mixed with your own blood as a platelet rich plasma to be injected into the skin to rejuvenate the skin and treat wrinkles.”

2- How Does It Work?

“We take the patient's own blood which is then spun in a centrifuge. The safe and rapid preparation of natural autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then re-injected into the soft tissue of the area needing restoration.”
“Stem Cells on the platelets produce growth factors that slow down the look of aging, stimulate the production of collagen and improve the volume and texture of the skin. You see an improvement of texture in a short time.”

3- Where is it effective?

“We recently conducted clinical trials using this technique to treat hollow, sunken eyes and dark circles in tear troughs – calling it the Twilight Plasma Renewal treatment. We have also seen impressive results in rejuvenating facial and neck wrinkles as well as improving the overall texture of the skin.

Talking with Dr. Jeannette Graf

Talking with Dr. Jeannette Graf

A leading skin science expert, Dr. Graf is a board certified, clinical and research Dermatologist. Known for her extensive and comprehensive approach to dermatology, Dr. Graf combines minimally invasive office procedures and effective skin care products with fundamental nutrition and lifestyle counseling to elicit both an inner and outer beauty from each of her patients. Dr. Graf is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and is the author of Stop Aging, Start Living (Crown, Fall 2007), which discusses her four-point body alkalinizing plan as a means to approach beauty, vitality and health from the inside, out. beautypress sat down with this skin expert and asked her for her insights on diet and nutrition, our skin's changing needs as we grow older, Vitamin D levels and more.

As a dermatologist, what do you consistently recommend as the barebones necessities when it comes to age-fighting?

Sunscreen to prevent photo aging. Antioxidants to neutralize damaging effects of free radicals. Retinoids because they are proven and recognized as #1 in anti-aging. Peptides to help stimulate collagen production for firmer skin.

Do diet and nutrition really play a role in how our skin looks and feels?

Definitely, because many of the foods we eat are rich in nutrients that benefit our skin. Since our diet also plays an important role in balancing the acidity and alkalinity levels of the body, making the right choices is important. Certain foods are acid-forming, which can be harmful to the entire body—including our skin cells. Alkalinizing foods, on the  other hand, neutralize acidity to benefit everything from healthy cell function to optimal energy levels and a glowing complexion.

Should the skin care products we use change as we go through our teens, 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s plus?
No matter what your age is, everyone should use a cleanser, exfoliant, moisturizer and a sunscreen. However, as we get older, we need to adapt our skin care regimen to our skin’s changing needs. For every decade we add to our chronological age, we need to beef up our skin care choices accordingly. For instance, in your twenties I recommend switching from  the daily sun protection you used in your teens to a sunscreen that includes antioxidants to fight free-radical damage. In your thirties, I advise layering a mineral make-up with SPF over your daily sunscreen for enhanced protection. Also, though age-fighting should begin with a retinol product in your twenties and continue throughout your life, something as basic as your cleanser should change according to your skin’s needs. For instance, when you are young, I recommend you use a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser. By the time you are in your forties, you should trade up to one that includes AHA, lactic acid or PHA. When you enter your fifties, skin can often lack firmness and have fewer emollients. Therefore, choose a cream-based cleanser that gently cleanses while helping to replenish moisture loss. Serums, masks and night creams should include retinol, peptides, lipids and humectants to boost firmness, elasticity and hydration levels.

If my Vitamin D levels are low, should I stop wearing a sunscreen?
My recommendation is NO! Suncreens are the first line of defense in preventing skin cancer. I would never suggest going out in the sun without a sunscreen, but I do recommend taking a Vitamin D3 supplement regularly to help meet your daily needs for the “sunshine” vitamin. Ask your doctor to test your vitamin D levels to determine if you are deficient. If you are, your doctor can recommend the proper dosage for you along with a sun exposure plan that is right for your skin type and coloring.

When should you seek the advice of a dermatologist?
My recommendation is as follows:
  • Annual skin cancer check beginning as early as teen years since teens like to tan—it’s a way of teaching them sun protection.
  • When you notice something suspicious that doesn’t go away.
  • If you have acne or any skin condition that is not responding to over- the-counter products.
  • When you feel your age-fighting regimen should include peels, fillers and/or other injectables such as Botox or any in-office procedure that should be performed by a board-certified dermatologist.

Skin Detox from the Inside!

Go makeup free. I know how hard it is, but on my days at home, I go without makeup as often as possible. If I’m having a day with video conferences, I’ll just wear mascara and lipstick a lot of times. It makes me look pulled together, and I’m still giving my skin a break.
Feed your skin. Not with serums and moisturizers. Feed it from the inside with the food you’re eating. Dark leafy greens, berries, melon and salmon all add up to help create gleaming skin. I try to eat from each color in my daily diet. As long as I’m doing that, my skin looks better, I feel better and I know I’m doing something good for body.

Avoid sugar and processed foods. Not all sugars are bad, but processed white sugars aren’t good for you skin. Period. According to a study in the British Journal of Dermatology, we can put part of the blame on aging from a process called glycation.

Smoking is another skin killer. If you do smoke, try to quit. It’s hard and will make your family and friends hate you for a few weeks. Chemicals in the cigarettes do nasty things, like break down the collagen in your skin, causing more rapid sagging and wrinkling. It also causes you to develop smokers lips — little fine lines all around your mouth. When I see young girls smoking, I want to grab my soapbox and lay down the healthy skin law.
Sunscreen. Lots and lots of sunscreen. I wear an SPF everyday of the year: 15 in the winter, a minimum of 30 in the summer. If I’m on the beach or ski slopes, I go for 50 and reapply constantly.
Go Organic Skin Care!

How to remove sun damage on my legs?

I have lots of sun damage and brown spots from years in the sun. How can I remove the brown spots from my legs and arms?

Stacey Berstein from Miami told us her secret. 2 years ago while attending a fashion show in Milan, she ask one of the model who told her to try the Body Peel. The Body Peel is a tca skin peel she bought from a plastic surgeon in Miami. She said after applying the peel twice to her legs the brown spots disappeared. But you need to use sunblock to prevent hyperpigmentation after the treatment.

I actually buy the larger bottle (100ml) and use it on my whole legs and arms. I spent about $250 and the brown spots are completely gone. YEAH!!!!

I buy it directly from the website and they ship it to me in Europe.

I cannot buy RETIN-A without a prescription, is there alternatives?

RETIN-A Alternatives?

Yes, there is products out there can are like Retin A or with same ingredients and we found one that is organic, vegan and kosher! The I'm Fabulous Retinol 2% cream.

Stephanie Berg from the incredible Monte Carlo Spa, rave about it! We use it here on all our clients and they come back to buy more of them.

What is the TCA Gorgeous Peel ?

DID YOU KNOW:
There is many skin peels out there.... Jessner, Lactic, Glycolic, Phenol, TCA, etc...
Doing a perfect TCA PEEL requires that you use the LEAST STRENGTH needed to abrade the stratum corneum layer. This is a percentage over 10% and under 20.
TCA over this strength will cause the skin to frost or turn white (similar to an light broiler burn).
The Gorgeous Peel from I’m Fabulous ® has a proven theory of abrading just enough of the stratum corneum to cause the skin to send valuable protein to the surface. When you frost the skin too deeply, your body goes into wound repair mode where it creates antibodies, scar tissue, melanin and other secretions, which may easily cause the skin to age faster!
Melanin is produced when you tan, and when you are wounded and when you have surges of progesterone (hormonal hyper pigmentation). When you go too deep into the epidermis or sub cutis layers by using high doses of a caustic chemical, your skin produces healing protein to bandage the chemical peel. This is not the correct way to do a peel.

An incredible peel! Selling like crazy in Europe in physician offices already!
Due to the intense mix of active ingredients it will cause a very fast drying and drawing of the topmost .01 micron. In most cases this will peel almost instantly or within 24 hours.
The Gorgeous peel tends to be a rather rapid exfoliation and one that you can expedite by compressing a warm cloth or even using your ring finger to roll the dead skin off.
Questions:
Will the treatment help to remove my pregnancy masque?
Yes. However, you will probably need to do more than one Peel treatment.
Will the treatment help to remove my freckles?
The treatment will not remove freckles that you were born with. However, it will help in the removal of freckles caused by sun damage, pregnancy mask and aging.
I have severe acne; will the treatment help my condition?
The treatment will help to treat the problems left once the acne has been properly treated under the guidance of your doctor or dermatologist. Such problems can range from, the marks left by acne, uneven skin tone, rough thickened skin and hyper-pigmentation.
My acne scarring (pitted) is extremely slight; will the treatment help to remove it?
The Gorgeous Peel treatment will only penetrate as deep as the epidermal (outer) layers of skin. It will never penetrate into the dermis (bottom) layer of skin. Therefore, if you are treating pitted acne scarring (as light as they may be) then the treatment will not be able to remove these marks totally as they generally tend to be deep in the bottom (dermis) layer of skin. It will however, help to make these scars less noticeable than they were before you did the treatment.
Will the Gorgeous Peel remove my pitted acne scarring?
If you are treating acne scarring in the form of darkened or reddened marks then the Gorgeous Peel treatment will help to remove these marks. The Gorgeous Peel treatment will only penetrate as deep as the epidermal (outer) layers of skin. It will never penetrate into the dermis (bottom) layer of skin. Therefore, if you are treating pitted acne scarring then the treatment will not be able to remove these marks totally as they generally tend to be deep in the bottom (dermis) layer of skin. It will however, help to make these scars less noticeable than they were before you did the treatment. An ideal candidate for one of our treatments is someone who is looking for improvement rather than perfection.
Can I apply Makeup after the Gorgeous Peel?
Yes but preferably mineral makeup because you do not want to apply anything cream or moisturizing.
Is the Gorgeous peel good for all skin types?
Yes, dark skin and all skin types
I'm Fabulous skin care theory is to PEEL more than you HEAL!!!
The second benefit of facial resurfacing that is done CORRECTLY is the SURGE of collagen and elastin that occurs post peel.
The trick behind an awesome peel is to FOOL the skin into secreting a TON of natural collagen and elastin to the effected area. BUT! If you DO burn you skin, using high doses (some are very unrepeatable), then ALL of that natural protein becomes WOUND REPAIR and it will have NO benefit to your new skin growth, for it is used up on trying to HEAL the skin that is in trauma.
The concept of resurfacing is LOST on this type of peel because the skin spends MORE TIME HEALING, than it does peeling.
A peel done correctly is a proven theory of abrading just enough of the stratum corneum to cause the skin to send valuable protein to the surface.
The concept of resurfacing the epidermis (face) has been around for many years. 20 years ago, plastic surgeons were doing WIRE DERMABRASION techniques that removed the stratum corneum and about 10-20 full micron of skin. The healing process was devastating for most patients. They suffered from hyper (dark) and hypo (white) pigmentation and an uneven skin surface.
In the last 20 years and have perfected the technique of LASER RESURFACING.
However it is STILL both expensive and has a 4-month healing process.
Most people cannot GO 4 months without working or being seen in public.
The concept of resurfacing the skin using A MILDER technique of facial resurfacing is one that is beneficial in TWO very specific ways. By abrading (killing and removing) small amounts of skin, about .01-.03 micron per treatment, you will expose SMOOTHER skin after just ONE result.
I'm Fabulous has developed the "Gorgeous peel" it is like a slow laser resurfacing treatment, one that even with my microdermabrader, I could NEVER MATCH because at one sitting, I'm taking off .01 micron, whereas the skincare products are a slow transdermal delivery removing a safe .03 micron per 4-6 days. Since it is ongoing, the new skin cell turnover is so RAPID; the anti aging benefits are HUGE. This rapid turnover triggers a wound repair reaction, so the skin floods the epidermis/stratum with COLLAGEN / ELASTIN-DNA REPAIR. And since there is no wound, or fire to extinguish, these proteins simply begin repairing and rebuilding cells on their own. Its TRULY rapid age reversal.
Is there any discomfort?  Could be a tiny bit. The application will sting until it has acclimated to the skins natural PH level. Although salt can shut this product down it is not recommended that you stop the peel before it has finished. I recommend having a cold wet cloth at the ready to hold and press onto the skin for comfort sake.
Is there any 'down time' that I should be prepared for? No downtime, you can apply mineral makeup only, if needed after the peel. You will feel your skintight for about 48 hours after the peel then your skin will peel off gently. You can redo the peel anytime, and you can even do 2 or 3 layers, meaning you apply it 2 or 3 times on your face then start looking at the clock to start the 3 minutes, then rinse off.
Seriously, how will I look? You will look fine! No worse than managing a peeling suntan!
Can I do a little test spot first? Yes! I insist that you do! In fact personally I never do a full-face peel. I do my lower nasal folds and chin on one treatment and then forehead on a second week. There is no special formula of application that you have to follow.
How many peels will I get in this 1 oz. bottle? You will be able to do more than 100 applications with just 1 oz.
I'm Fabulous Cosmetics pure Hyaluronic Acid serum is highly recommended for post peel.
The key to flawless skin is RAPID EXFOLIATION followed by INFUSION OF PROTEIN (hyaluronic protein).
Buyer and user must wear a Sunblock after the peel for several months.
You are NOT a good candidate for a chemical peel if any of the following apply at the peel site:
•               Infection or disease
•               Cut or broken skin
•               Sunburn
•               Currently have an active Herpes simplex 1 sore
•               If you are nursing or pregnant
•               If you have taken Accutane in last 6 months
•               If you currently have Psoriasis, Eczema, Dermatitis or Rosacea. You are not a suitable candidate if you have used any of the following drugs in the last 48 hours: Retin-A, Renova, Prescription skin care products, Products that contain ascorbic acid, bleaching or skin-lightening agents, other acid products.
This peel is not recommended for patients with: inflammatory process in the area to be treated, re-occurring herpes infections, pregnancy (confirmed or suspected), sun related activities and mental problems.

Cream vs. Serum

Cream vs. Serum
Due to the sheer number of skincare products on the market with different consistencies, the average consumer
is often confused when selecting the most suitable product.

In this issue, we will provide you with some tools to help you make the best selection.

Let's start with the basics – what is the difference between a Serum and a Cream?
Medical licensed esthetician and anti-aging manufacturer Anis Lacerte believe that creams have been around for a long time and are still the most popular form of skin care.
Creams are typically made by mixing oil with water.
They tend to be moisturizing in action and may or may not contain active ingredients to address specific skin concerns.

However, you always want to look for creams with active ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, VITAMIN E, and Q10.
Generally, creams are best suited for normal and dry skin types.

Serums are the new kids on the block and are gaining loyal followers quickly.
Serums tend to be more liquid-like and are water based. This makes them lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin.
Best serums are formulated to deliver topical ingredients such as peptides
, Matryxl 3000, and m-Tranexamic Acid more effectively.

Serums are a concentrated way to get key ingredients into the skin.
Serums can be layered on (normally no more than 3 at a time) without adverse effects or degrading efficacy of the
ingredients.
Since serums tend to be light and water based, they are suitable for most skin types.

The bottom line: Cream or Serum?
The most important factors in determining if you should select a Serum or Cream are your skin type,
weather, and your living environment.

Cream-based skincare is most suitable for people with dryer skin since they lack moisture and are most prone to tightness
and peeling. Reinforcing skincare with cream-based products will help restore sebum and moisture to the skin, thereby
delaying the speed at which moisture escapes from the skin.

People with combination skin and those who live in island or humid environments can also use cream-based skincare
during seasonal changes. You can reinforce your hydrating efforts by simply applying cream based products to areas
prone to dryness and peeling. People who work in air-conditioned areas can also reinforce their skincare with
cream-based products to protect skin from moisture loss.

Oily and/or acne prone skin are prone to oil and have slower renewal cycles.
If you use cream-based products with high oil content, it can cause your pores to become clogged, thereby increasing
occurrence of pimples or acne. For people with oil or acne prone skin, we would recommend that you use oil-free
serums or lotions with lighter consistencies to lock in moisture.

Basic Tip:
Regardless of whether you use serum or cream-based skincare products, we recommend that you start with
products that have lighter consistencies since they have smaller molecular sizes and are easily absorbed.
Proceed to layer with products that have heavier consistencies.
